Church Facility Specification Process
Church facility specifications are a written communication from the church to the design professionals describing current and future activities to be accommodated by the facility. These describe the mission, goals, and objectives of each of the spaces needed and indicate relationships between spaces, equipment and technology needs, and any special conditions to be considered.
Step One: Planning Committee
This diverse committee helps facilitate your congregation through the facility specifications process. Operating by consensus, the committee consists of staff, pastors, and parishioners and meets approximately six times during the process.
Step Two: Visioning and Orientation
Committee members attend a Visioning and Orientation work session to receive information on the facility specifications process, timeline, and their roles and responsibilities. In addition, there are activities to bring all participants to consensus on the vision, goals, and values of the church. Often the design team is present to observe and hear input from this planning group.

Step Three: Specification Lab #1
This two-day work session reviews the church profile, current and future trends in church programming and services, space needs, and relationships. The information gathered during this session is compiled and a draft report prepared for Lab #2.
Step Four: Specification Lab #2
Participants are asked to review and modify the draft specifications report. Small groups are formed and some initial design concepts are developed. Typically members of the design team are present at this work session as well.
Step Five: Final Report
The final facility specifications report is completed and presented to the church board.
Step Six: Schematic Design Review
Warner Concepts will review the schematic designs developed by the design team to ensure that the vision, goals, and objectives discussed during the specifications labs has been accurately portrayed.
